What is Starmere English?

A curriculum that connects each next step

Program goals

Skills that grow together

The emphasis develops as the learner moves through the curriculum. Placement helps establish where to begin; age alone does not choose the level.

Read with understanding

Build from sounds and early reading towards fluency, comprehension and thoughtful interpretation.

Express ideas in writing

Develop clear written expression, then explore creative, descriptive, analytical and persuasive work.

Think about meaning

Ask questions, connect ideas and develop the reasoning behind a response.

Communicate with confidence

Bring vocabulary, understanding and expression into purposeful communication.

The curriculum

Five stages. Fifteen levels.

Each stage groups three levels. Explore the route below, then open a level to see its curriculum and books.

How the structure works

Small cycles inside a bigger journey

Learners work through a manageable group of books, with Checks that help guide the next step.

4 books in a cycle

The current Learning Pack brings together four assigned books. Practice and a learning check help you see what your child has understood.

9 cycles in Levels 1-14

Levels 1-14 each contain 36 books. Level 15 has eight books in two cycles. Teaching and Checks establish whether the learner is ready to continue.

3 levels in a stage

Each stage brings together a broader set of skills. The Learner Passport keeps the history as the journey develops.

Your child's learning plan shows which books to use next. Browse the curriculum to see the skills ahead.

Room to grow beyond early reading

The later stages extend into writing, research and communication. Learners build on what they can already do, with progress supported by evidence.

Progress you can understand

See what they can do. Celebrate how they grow.

Understand what your child is learning and keep recorded achievements together across programs and instructors.

A Passport that grows with them

Keep learning and achievements together, even when your child changes program, instructor or club.

Know what to practice

Useful feedback helps you see what is going well and where more practice would help.

Notice what they understand

Learning checks help an instructor decide when to build on a skill and when to spend more time.

Celebrate achievements

Certificates recognize demonstrated skills as a learner progresses through a program.
